At White Witch Publishing, we’ve noticed that readers haven’t dared yet, or often don’t know, that it’s possible to dedicate eBooks. That’s why we’ve decided to make this tutorial so our future visitors can make their dedication requests with a light heart!

This tutorial is for both authors looking to expand their digital know-how and readers happy to find new ways to have their books dedicated.

Why Dedicate an eBook?

During a normal signing session, meeting the author is part of the experience as much as leaving with your signed book and a little note. So, what’s the point of dedicating an eBook?

To be frank, experimenting with eBook dedication can be just as fun as a paper one. It’s even an extra opportunity for the author to be creative and delight their readers ;-).

When I write a dedication on paper, I only have the choice of my handwriting and the little note I add. Then there are few ways to add some fun to it.

When we create a digital dedication, we can choose a whimsical font, integrate images, photos, symbols related to the book — imagination has no limits. Writing a dedication in Word or Canva, personalizing it, turning it into an image and integrating it into the book… it’s as simple as that.

For those who want to go further, the Dedee program (details below) is made for you.

How to Proceed for Readers

Just send an email to contact@sorciereblancheeditions.com with the eBook (ePub format) as an attachment — we take care of the rest. You’ll receive your dedication, integrated into your eBook, by return email once we’ve passed the request to the author.

For Authors: How to Dedicate an eBook

Two favorite methods: one with a program, one with a tablet or smartphone and GoodNotes (or equivalent).

Method 1: The Dedee Program

Created by an author for authors, available since 2014. The reader sends their ePub by email; the author follows a few steps.

Step 1: Create the dedication

Word, Canva, or Dedee’s built-in tool — same process.

Step 2: Transform into a JPG image

Resize the image for smooth email exchange.

Step 3: Open Dedee and select your ePub

Choose dedication location, import the image, set appearance, add text. When it looks right, click “insert” and save.

Step 4: Send the dedicated eBook back

Well done — a new string to your bow!

Practical info on Dedee

  • Individual license (one per pen name if needed).
  • Not limited to one computer (same OS).
  • Under €40, lifetime download, updates included.
  • PC and Mac, French and English.
  • Desktop program only — for mobile, use method 2.

Method 2: GoodNotes (or equivalent)

At a book fair, wouldn’t it be great to have an author sign your eBook and add a souvenir photo?

A digital dedication notebook (we offer one in White Witch colors — subscribe to the newsletter for more) makes that easy.

Step 1: Choose your notebook

GoodNotes templates, your own designs, or our White Witch notebook.

Step 2: Prepare your notebook

Screenshot the eBook title page, insert it. Optionally montage with the cover. One title page per notebook page. Add blank pages as needed.

Step 3: Take it to book fairs

Visit stands, get signatures, add a photo if the author agrees — authors are usually happy to delight their readers.

To Conclude

You’re ready to make your eBooks more personal and playful.

Hoping this tutorial pleased you and sparked good ideas — the White Witch says see you soon.

Take care of yourself :-)
